Course Description:

The course on Human trafficking and fundamental rights is aimed at giving students an interdisciplinary approach on the “human trafficking”: a widespread and transnational phenomenon that interests all the States involved in the course and which poses not only legal issues but also economic, social and ethical issues.

It is addressed to students of different fields, such as law, political sciences, sociology, theology and ethic, international relationship.

The coordinator is Professor Annalisa Mangiaracina, from the University of Palermo, and the working team is composed by other professors and Ph.D. students of the University of Palermo, Valencia and Mainz: Prof. Lucia Parlato, Maria Teresa Alemany, Paz Garcia Lloria, Elke Mack, Beatriz Belando and the Ph.D. students Roberta Sollima, Salomè Lannier and Edith Wittenbrick.

The course is structured in three modules.

The first module  of lectures will offer to the students a general knowledge about trafficking: its definition, interferences, and differences with other offences (such as smuggling); main legislation governing the matter at International and European level; actors of the offence; definition of victim and related.

The second module is more specific and based on sexual exploitation in Italy, France, Germany and Spain: how it works, legal aspects, criminal and procedural issues.

The third module is focused on practical issues related to investigations and protection of the victims.

At the end of each module the students have to do an exam with multiple choices related to all videos.
